A TRIBUTE TO MS. ELIZABETH ANDERSON

Ms. Elizabeth Anderson was a pillar of this church. She had retired and moved to Annapolis before most of you attended this church. Upon passing, she left to all of us a great gift. Her memory should be etched in our minds, as she is largely responsible for all of the tremendous improvements to this physical plant during the past year.

Ms. Anderson grew up on the family farm, which was located on Aldino Road. This is where the Memorial Gardens is now located. Her father, Mr. Sam Anderson, played a big role in having the Webster Community Church rebuilt after the disastrous fire in 1924. He was one of a few that supplied leadership, labor, and finances for this endeavor. He later served on Boards of the church. In the late 1930's, Ms. Anderson purchased land at the corner of  Webster Rd. (Rt. 155 at that time) and Paradise Rd. She built the red, brick bungalow on that land and lived there until moving to Annapolis. Upon graduation from college she taught Home Economics in the Baltimore City School system. She worked there until retirement.

Her love of Webster Church was deep and some of us had the privilege to know and work with her on numerous committees and projects. Her contributions were varied. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, was very active with the SCCW, held several offices, and worked or chaired several committee. She was Chairman of the very important committee that was charged with the responsibility to have the church redecorated after it was renovated in the 1960's. The sconces on the sidewalls of the sanctuary were her special gift.

She entertained frequently and many times took her guests to Baltimore. She had a deep appreciation of music and her favorite piece was Finlandia. She is still fondly remembered for her ability to bake an outstanding coconut cake. It was common knowledge that all of her cakes for church fundraisers were sold before they were baked.

Through her deep love of the Webster UCC and remembering her youthful life with the church, she graciously left sufficient funds to the church that enabled us today to provide a beautiful and comfortable place to worship. She would be very proud of this.
