Rededication

Today we come to this place to rededicate ourselves to God, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, our community and most importantly to each other. It is through the body of Christ, which is our church family that we gain our strength.

Two and half years ago when I assumed the position of church moderator we were a church sad in spirit and we had inherited a facility that was in decay. Our needs were many; the church needed new windows, roof repair, and painting, a heating system that was old and worked when it felt like it. We knew that if we were to be a church of the future we would need to install air conditioning throughout the facility. These however were things of man, things that could be fixed and added, things that could be bought with money, things that through the generosity of our late friend and sister in Christ, Ms Elizabeth Anderson, were available to us. Because of the courage of this congregation we decided that this money that went unused for so many years was there as Ms. Anderson intended, to improve our church, to help us become a beacon of Christian worship in Harford County.

But what of the sadness of Spirit? How were we going to overcome that. We all turned to our Pastor and she delivered. Lonna’s enthusiasm in her new found spirituality caught on like a wild fire and spread throughout the congregation. There was new life in our Christian education department; we had a deaconate that worked with our minister instead of against. We had a Board of Trustee’s that understood the mission that we had set out on and accomplished that mission; and we had an Official Board that wanted to work together for the greater good of the church. Yes today we as a church have a new spirit a new direction a new excitement and a new mission that Christ had given us. We are all challenged now to spread his word to tell everyone we can, that there is a new Webster Church with a new attitude and a stronger belief in God and the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ; that we are a church that welcomes all to the Lord’s Table, and we know that God is still speaking to us, that he is truly guiding us on our new mission.

Now I would like to put out a challenge to the young families to become more involved in your church, to take leadership positions; to allow us that have served for so many years to pass this torch in confidence that our destiny as a beacon of Christ will continue and be passed on to your children. As a congregation you have shown that you have the strength and spirit to continue this walk with God. We have an 82 year history of being committed to God and his word; we have been an anchor in our community. Let us continue that commitment and spread it throughout not only our community but every where we go.
