A Note From The Trustees
I purport that a church is more than a place of worship, at least for me. A church provides a sense of community. Strike that – a church is the community. This is especially true in a congregational church. And this community is worth the time and effort. The physical well-being of the church reflects our community.
The trustees are not charged with running the church. The trustees ensure that the church runs when the community beckons. We take pride in providing a church that is warm in the winter and cool in the summer. We see to it that the lights, bathrooms, kitchen and sanctuary are in good working order. And, that the grounds are open and inviting.
We still have many issues with our church. I hesitate in listing those demands because I feel that people have had enough. We’ve spent thousands of dollars upgrading the church. You’ve heard it many times in the past year. We’ve fixed the roof and windows, etc. But now the gutters need attention. And the snow guards on the roof need repair. And so on and so on. But it’s worth it. Trust me.
We will continue our charge, but we need new leadership in the forthcoming year. We need men and women to step up to take the lead. I need to focus on other aspects of the church. I hope I am leaving this job in better shape than received. And I hope that the next leader of the Trustees does the same.
I must emphasize one point. Being a trustee is a tremendously rewarding experience. The congregation is overly appreciative, and it’s a job where you can look back and tangibly see the rewards.
