A Note From Your Moderator

The Board kicked off the first official meeting of the year on February 5, 2007. We have such a great group of members on our Board, which sure makes my job easy. For this first meeting, the Board discussed spring events and current issues. However, we focused much of our attention on each group’s budget. This year we are following our annual budget fairly closely but adjusting for unexpected expenses. By doing so, we’ll be able to track our collections to ensure that we can cover our expenses while serving our community.

Our next board meeting is March 5th. Please join us, as these meetings are open to all. Board meetings are an excellent way to see how our church operates.

We are in the midst of the Lenten season – Christianity’s most sacred time of year. Pastor Lonna, the Deacons, and the music program are working together to plan our services. Every Sunday I look forward to coming to church to see what they have in store for us. As always, if you would like input into the service, please contact me or Pastor Lonna and we’ll make sure your opinion is considered.

Thank you to all those involved in planning our Ash Wednesday Taize service. A special thanks to Casey Anno and Auggie Somers for putting this together. This year a record crowd of 35 people attendied.

We’re pulling out of the winter months and soon enough the flowers and trees will be in full bloom. I can’t wait to turn off our heat and open the windows during worship. During the next Board meeting, one issue that we’re going to discuss is either pruning or replacing the large Bradford Pear trees along side of the church. The problem we are having is that the trees are so large that they are causing problems with the roof and gutters. They also prevent grass from growing on that side of the church. Please let Graham Silsby or me know what you think about this.

One of our silver-colored candleholders that we use during communion broke and we can’t find a match. So we’re looking for a replacement set. If you’d like to donate money towards a new set, please see Julie Akers. We expect them to cost no more than $150 and probably closer to $100.

Please visit our church’s website at http://www.websterucc.org. Casey Anno spent significant time building this website and maintains it weekly. We are very fortunate to have Casey’s expertise and contribution, as websites are an excellent way to outreach to the community. I use the website weekly to check the calendar and to look at my picture online.

I would like to extend thanks to Bill and Bessie Bowman, Nolan Gallion, and Graham Silsby for seeing to it that our parking lot and sidewalks were cleared of snow during our recent snowstorms.

Debbie Meyers is filling in for Linda Placzankis while she is currently on bed rest and then during the subsequent months following the birth of her child. We expect Linda to return in September, or when she’s ready. I’d like to thank both ladies for the seamless transition and their hard work.
