Ask and ye shall receive. I have a love hate relationship with the physical structure of the church. Just when we think we have it in tip-top working condition, the old girl just keeps on complaining. However, this time, I think we’ve addressed one of the major issues – water damage.

Thanks to the congregation, we now have new gutters and have removed the snow guards that held snow on the roof allowing for melting and refreezing. The refreezing lifted the slate and water was leaking in like a sieve. Let’s hope and pray that this once and for all solves the problem. If not, I give up….

I’d like to take time to recognize several people who dedicate countless hours to making this church an active and thriving community organization. A few weeks ago, I asked the deaconate to organize and run the church service with only two weeks notice to allow our pastor some personal time to take care of her mother. Julie Akers, without batting an eye, stepped up to the challenge and took charge. Her leadership is outstanding and we are fortunate to have her as our head deacon. Thanks Julie.

I would also like to thank the ladies of the SCCW and especially Doris Lyttle and Bessie Bowman, for organizing the Mother’s Day dinner preparations as well as the church yard sale. Without these two ladies, the church would not be where we are today. There dedication is year in and year out. I really appreciate their help and encouragement. Thanks girls!

You are going to hear a lot about the Peach Festival in the upcoming months. We are going to make the Peach Festival our top fundraiser, much like the Quaker Church, the Friends Meeting House, has done with the Blueberry Festival in Darlington. This year we’re shooting for 300 peach pies. We’re going to use one recipe, including the dough. We’ll be asking for your help to make dough in the months prior to the Peach Festival. Then, the week of the Festival, we’re going to have a few teams get the peaches and peel and assemble and bake the pies a day or two before the event (August 17 th). Please let Doris or me know if you can help.

Respectfully Submitted,
