Christian Ed Update

I am very excited about our Christian Education program at Webster Church. Sunday School is very strong, with over 30 children and youth participating. We will have 5 Sunday School teachers rotating the classes in 2007. If anyone else wants to take a turn at being a Sunday School teacher or a nursery volunteer (we will have several babies in our Church family soon), please let Heidi (Sunday School Superintendent) or me know.

Since Rally Day in September 2006, we have been using a “One Room Sunday School” program. As the name of the program suggests, all of the children and youth participate in Sunday School together. Our first term covered the story of Moses and the Israelites. Our second term, which commenced in December, started with the birth of Jesus and focuses on various aspects of the New Testament. Unlike past years, we plan to continue Sunday School at least every other week throughout the summer.

We have lots of fun events planned for 2007, including a Mardi Gras Karaoke event scheduled for Saturday, March 3 rd from 12:00-2:00 p.m. This is always a wonderful time for both the young and the young at heart. Please invite your friends to join us. We will have pizza and snacks, in addition to prizes for each person who sings Karaoke. Even if you don’t want to sing, please plan to join us for fellowship. We invite people to make donations during this event, with the proceeds going to the General Fund for the Church.

This year, we are going to expand the focus of Christian Education beyond the children. We are planning several “Lunch and Learn” sessions, which will be held after Church. We plan to explore such topics as “the United Church of Christ,” “the History of Webster Church,” and “the Committees of Webster Church.” If you have any ideas for additional topics for a Lunch and Learn, please let me know. Also, we are interested in your ideas for adult Christian Education. We need to know what kind of adult classes/Bible study you would like to see at Webster Church and what times/days people are available for such sessions. Please present your ideas to me.
