Earl’s Place
Back in the fall of 2005, Sheila Helgerson spoke to our congregation about Earl’s Place. As you may recall, Earl’s Place, the first charity project of United Ministries Inc., provides housing and supportive services to homeless men who are working to change their lives, and it is a mission agency of the Chesapeake Association. (See Dec 05 edition of The Webster Word.)
Of special note is an article that appeared in the TODAY section of the Baltimore Sun on Tuesday, Nov 28, 2006 about the 114-year-old Afro American newspaper in Baltimore. Recently, the Afro sent copy editor-turned-reporter Leonard Sparks to Iraq for three weeks to cover African-American soldiers. Leonard Sparks is a 2003 Earl’s Place Visionary, and he is also now on the Board of Directors. You can find Leonard’s articles, blog, pictures and interviews at http://www.afro.com/iraqtoday.html.
