A Message From Your Pastor
“The Holly and the ivy, when they are both full grown, of all the trees that are in the woods, the holly bears the crown…..”
As I look out my window, I see the holly tree shining in the sun, with so many red berries, it is a beautiful sight. There is a story behind this holly tree. Years ago, when my dad was able to help with gardening, he spotted this tiny little holly seedling, growing all by itself. Dad replanted it close to the parsonage, so it would be shielded from the harsh winters. For years, it grew tall and strong and began to produce such big red berries, that we would all enjoy. Last year though, we needed to move the tree, because the drainage pipes needed to be replaced, and the tree was growing right over them. We decided to move it to a sunny place, next to the roses, and hope that it would survive. We brought in the heavy loader, dug it up and replanted it in the fall. We prayed over it, hoping it would survive the move, and our prayers were answered. With good food, “Holly Tone” and lots of watering, and many prayers, it stands proudly today, displaying its lovely red berries for all of us to enjoy. This year, we will decorate it with white lights and celebrate each evening with joy, remembering its journey from a tiny seedling to a vital tree that enjoys its new home at Webster. It also provides a resting place for the cardinals who come to visit and perch on its branches.
Over my “fireplace” in the dining room, hangs a painting by Chris White, called “The Holly Tree By the Tracks”. This painting was a Christmas gift from you many years ago. I am reminded of Christmas past, as a child, going to Jackson Station Road to view the B. and O. Railroad tree, listening to the carolers sing as the train would go by, and I have wonderful memories of my childhood years. The B. and O. Holly Tree looked so big to me then, all gloriously decorated and celebrated. I wonder how big our Webster Holly Tree will grow, with nurturing, and prayer, with good food and watering, my hope is that it will become a shining reminder of the love of family and friends here at Webster Church.
In this advent season, may God shelter you. While we wait for the birth of the Christ child, may your faith sustain you. In uncertain times, may the love of God greet you at dawn and comfort you in twilight, as you labor on and love on, awaiting the birth of the Savior of the World.
And when the Advent Season closes, as the sun sets on Christmas Eve, come and be with us at Webster Church for a concert of music, and a worship service of lessons and carols to welcome our Savior into the world with rejoicing, O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.
Blessings and Peace,
Pastor Lonna
