The Stole from Guatemala

Imagine my surprise when Lonna came into the church on Sunday last, wearing her magnificent hand-woven stole. I knew immediately it was made by the ladies from Guatemala.

When she was ordained on Nov.1995 in the Community Congregational Church in Tiburon, Ca, overlooking San Francisco Bay, the ladies presented her a gift of this stole. The flashbacks of my daughter Elizabeth and her young family came to mind.

Elizabeth teamed up with the American Medical Missionary Board in 1985 and along with her husband Michael, two young daughters and their old beat-up pickup truck drove from northeastern New Mexico to the northeastern region of Guatemala. She to serve as a midwife and Michael to teach English to the orphan children in the jungle region. They remained there for two years. You can only imagine the experiences!

I have a few items that Elizabeth brought home to me from that area and they are indeed made of the same bright, gorgeous colors as Lonna's stole. The Guatemalan women have a unique and God-given talent for hand-weaving.. How very blessed our little church in Webster is to have a pastor such as Lonna, serving in our midst, bringing her thoughts and ideas to share with us. Her caring and radiance is contagious.
