Troop 965 Canoe Outing
Boy Scout Troop 965 scouts and leaders canoed the Pocomoke River on Saturday, September 22nd. The canoeists were Kyle Dowdy, Max Knight, Morgan Schwartz, Emory Cook, Robbie Gott, Matt Strickland, Randy Sorretino, Jacob Bedsaul, Nathan Cook, Corey Waugh, Mike Mentzer, and Even Dowdy. The weekend started with camping Friday evening at the beautiful Shad Landing area of Pocomoke River State Park. Early Saturday morning, the scouts launched their canoes in the headwaters of the Pocomoke River, and spent several hours paddling through a spectacular cypress forest and enjoying wildlife on this National Scenic River. They then enjoyed lunch on the river banks in Snow Hill, MD, and some great hospitality by the friendly Pocomoke River Canoe Company. Then, a special opening of the Snow Hill drawbridge allowed this canoe flotilla to continue its trek down the river to return to the Shad Landing camping area. Even after many miles of paddling, these fine, and now quite experienced, canoeists had enough energy left to cook some fine meals and enjoy campfire fellowship before turning in for the night. Sunday morning was spent cooking breakfast, breaking camp, and traveling back home with great memories to complete this great outing.
