Well here we go. In the blink of an eye, the holiday seasons are approaching. The Deacons and the Music Committee are working hard to plan our services. I am sure we’re all looking forward to hearing what the pastor, organist and choir have in store for us.
The Board is working hard to ensure that we are financially and spiritually sound as the year comes to a close. As Art Helton has mentioned, fiscally we had a good summer. But with the loss of member’s that left the church, we are behind on our pledges. I encourage you to ensure that your pledges are met. Your generous pledges ensure that our fixed costs, such as utilities, insurance, and payroll are met.
The Board of Christian Ed increased its workload over the summer by continuing Sunday School throughout the summer on an abbreviated schedule. This extra effort was remarkable in two ways. First summer attendance was higher than in past years. Second our kids had a continuous religious education. Thanks to all the teachers downstairs who keep this program alive and growing.
The youth group is planning their annual odyssey to Ocean City. Pastor Lonna, Heidi Pensell, and the Howers are daring to take on two rooms full of kids for the weekend. God bless them… We look forward to hearing what they learned and the fun they had.
Graham Silsby and the Trustees have been hard at work trying to keep this old building in good repair. If there’s anyone in the church that understands that challenge, it’s Graham (and possibly me). Although we have tackled many of the major problems, the little ones still haunt us.
I’d like to thank Carol Gallion for her dedication and service to the Board and church and to a speedy recovery on her broken foot. Carol had to resign her position as chair of the Outreach. The Board voted that Woody Hower will take over her duties as the chair of Outreach for the remainder of the year.
And lastly, I’d like to wish the Walter and Marilyn Cooley the best of luck in moving to Vermont. We’re going to miss you very much. The Cooleys have been an integral part of our church for many years, devoting their time and experience whenever asked. The Cooley family heritage runs deep in Harford County. Their departure is more than a loss for the church; it’s a loss for the community as well. Best of luck.
