Moderator’s Message
May 2008
Webster Congregational Church is blessed with many talented and hard-working parishioners who want to assure the future of our Church as a place to worship, enjoy friendships and spread Christ’s message in the community. Spring time seems to give new energy to these busy, dedicated types and the Church calendar reflects this. We are poised to begin our series of fund-raising events that give support to all we do as active Christians.
On May 3 we open with our annual yard sale, breakfast and lunch that will draw many Harford County residents to our village Church. It is also a great time to clean out your basements, attics and shed, give the benefit to the Church and socialize with all our visitors.
Later on we will launch the Peach Festival and Fall Bazaar events where much baking, peeling, organizing and planning will ensue. Yes, those peeled peaches and apples do leave our fingers looking like dried prunes by the time all those pies are artfully arranged in the Social Hall.
Why do we exert all this effort with a small cadre of members working so hard? The answer is so clear to me: We want to support the Church we love, assure our continuing desire to worship here, enjoy the fellowship of a common purpose and give back to the treasury that underpins the operation of Webster Church. Most of us are acutely aware of the financial needs of the Church and these events help keep us going. We are also using all our talents as the scriptures require. In the words of President John Adams we are employing “good heads encouraged by good hearts.”
My personal thanks for all you do and for the spirit in which you do it. And I extend this appreciation to our organist, Auggie Somers, our dedicated choir members and Praise Band; our Christian Education leaders and our Board of Directors. We are One in the spirit of the Lord!
