A Note from the Deacons

The deaconate met on April 17, and discussions on several matters in relationship to the church service and the workings and responsibilities of the deaconate. It was decided that the deacons serving communion will take greater care on the amount of bread and juice we use, there has been a lot of waste in the past and we would like to cut down on what has to be discarded. It was also decided that the deacons would take a more spiritual and respectful attitude towards the sacrament of communion and how it is conducted. The communion service will now come before Children’s Time in the order of worship.

The deacons will now take over the updating of the Prayer List, and Deacon Hower will create a computer program for auto updating of the prayer list. On May 18 (Pentecost Sunday) the prayer list will be cleared and church members will resubmit names for the prayer list. Names will go on the list by the date they are received and will remain for 90 days and then removed. The names can be resubmitted again at that time. This will allow the office to use a slightly larger font when printing the names so that we can actually read them. It will also allow us to get updates on people on the list. The Military Personnel list will not change at all and will stay on the list until we are told to remove it. In addition we will add a (in Memoriam) list that will be updated every two weeks. The deacons on call every month will also be the prayer person on call, if you have someone that needs immediate prayer please call the deacons on call to have these people put on the list. The deacons on call will be responsible to take time out their week to pray for all names on the prayer list.

Other items discussed at the meeting: The inactive members list and updating, looking into altar table covers for the table at the front of the church, changing the summer and fall hours dates to start (this will be sent back to the Official Board), deacons on call list for May, June and July (Pat Mengel & Joyce Reynolds for May); (Gary Lyttle and Linda Placzankis for June); (Woody and Kelly Hower for July).
