To the Congregation Concering Open And Affirming
At the Annual meeting held in January, the congregation approved the formation of an Open and Affirming Investigating Committee. The committee is now in the formation stage after being approved by the official board at the February meeting. Gary Lyttle was approved as the chair of the committee and was charged with finding church members to serve on the committee. At this time the committee consist of Gary Lyttle, chairman, Casey Anno, Woody Hower, Marie Wehland, and Jo Mitchell. It was hoped that the committee would consist of a minimum of five members and not more than eight members. At this time we are searching for three more members, if these spots are not filled by March 16, then we will proceed with five members.
It is with great pleasure that we have retained the Rev. Jim Bell as our consultant and spiritual guide as we go through this period of study and investigation. It is the hope of the official board that at the conclusion of study the committee will be able to make a recommendation to the congregation as how the church should proceed concerning the issue of becoming an Open and Affirming Church. It is estimated that this study will take a minimum of one year before a final report can be made to the official board and the congregation.
I sincerely hope and pray that you would consider becoming a member of the Open and Affirming Investigating committee; we hope to have our first meeting some time after the Easter season. Thank You,
Gary Lyttle, Chairman
