Scout Sunday @ Webster Church

Sunday February 10, 2008

The Boy Scouts of America generally designates the Sunday that falls before February 8 (Scouting Anniversary Day) as Scout Sunday, which is the primary date to recognize the contributions of young people and adults to Scouting. However, each chartered organization can celebrate on the Sunday most acceptable to the pastor and congregation. This year, Webster Congregational Christian Church in Havre de Grace celebrated Scout Sunday on February 10, 2008.

This year’s celebration was a resounding success, as we had many Scouts, Scouters and parents representing Cub Scout Pack 965, Boy Scout Troop 965, Girl Scout Brownie Troop 1318 and Girl Scout Troop 2506. In addition to the large turn-out of uniformed scouts, the Worship Assistants for this week’s service consisted of several Scouts from Boy Scout Troop 965. The Scripture Reading was done by Daniel Gamble, the Acolyte was Mac Placzankis, Cory Waugh and Joshua Gall were ushers, and Morgan Schwartz provided the Children’s Time lesson.

The Scout Praise Team performed beautifully as usual. Led by father and son James Keefer and Jason Keefer, along with Dave Brown, John Schwartz, Ron Querns and Jack Hoy, they performed On My Honor as the Prelude. “Who Am I” and “Your Beloved” were wonderfully arranged and performed following Pastor Lonna’s inspiring message in which we took a closer look at Scouting’s Outdoor Code.

It is always nice to see the Scouting Program so well represented as we had this Sunday. We hope to see many of those bright faces return for future services.
