Operation Icicle
Broad Creek Memorial Scout Reservation
January 25th – 27th, 2008
Boy Scout Troop 965 braved freezing temperatures to participate in this year’s Operation Icicle Event. The theme was Medieval Times and present in the wonderfully costumed Scouts, decorated flags and lively cheers of the patrols were the true Scouting Spirit of Troop 965.
The Troop set up camp Friday evening, had an early Cracker Barrel and huddled down for a cold night in the teens. After breakfast and the opening ceremony the next morning the Patrols headed out for the Station Challenges. Some of the stations tested their skills like spear throwing, archery and lashings. Others rated each patrol’s Suit of Armor, Shield and Flag. Being able to explain each patrol’s Coat of Arms and the meaning behind the symbols and colors were important and earned points. Other stations tested on their Medieval Times History. Finally, there was the Patrol Cheer; it had to be loud and enthusiastic (which was more difficult after lunch).
Three Patrol’s represented Troop 965: The Dragons, The Panthers (known this day as the Fat Goose Patrol) and The Flying Eagles which included a few members of The Hawk Patrol. The Dragon Patrol was awarded Third Place in the Top 10 Dens for the Weekend – Congratulations Dragons!!
Scouts attending this year’s Operation Icicle were Ryan Beatty, Paul Butz, T.J. Byrnes, Boomer Carr, Matt Collins, Every and Nathan Cook, Evan and Ryan Dowdy, Josh Gall, Daniel Gamble, Brian Gonch, Robbie Gott, Justin Hyde, Adam Lilly, Caleb Little, Mike Mentzer, Nicholas Padgett, Mac Placzankis, Daniel Schwartz, Nick Trimble, Brandon and Cory Waugh, and Bobby Wloczewski.
