OFFICIAL BOARD MEETING REVIEW

March 10, 2008

 

plus one parishoner. Pastor opened meeting with prayer. Gary L. moved and Heidi P. seconded to approve Feb. meeting minutes. Motion cared.

Pastor - Three new parishioners joined church and three were baptized. Transportation arranged for one parishoner, three home visits, one bereavement visit, one wedding performed, two funerals conducted, attended dinner with three delegates at Leadership Dinner of Central Atlantic Conf., attended Susquehanna Ministerium meeting, attended Chr. Ed. Bible study, attended Boy Scout Dinner, and made several Outreach calls. Upcoming Easter events were reported on. She gave to Ann H. the criteria for minister evaluation.

Treasurer - Report reflected $6,000 of which $4,000 is borrowed and $2,000 is year’s pledge from the SCCW. Revenue continues to be less than needed for one months operation. Current balance is $3,484. Woody moved and Heidi seconded that the report be accepted. Motion carried.

Moderator - A listing of all committee members for 2008 was distributed. Also, the standard church rental agreement was given out. Jazzercise has not responded to rental increase. Was informed of dates unavailable for their use in March. Spring meeting of Chesapeake Assoc. will not be held at Webster, but will be in Perry Hall. Ann H., Doris L., Gary L., and Pastor will attend. Still no volunteer to serve as liaison to Grace Place has come forward, but we will have helpers. A $10,000 bequest from the Alice Howe estate was announced. The church directory has now been completed . Count of members will be sent to UCC. Church secretary Nickey Brand will shortly know if she can return to her job. Working on arrangements for care of her Mother. Linda Placzankis is filling in in preparing for Easter Services. The Pastoral Relations Committee will meet in the quiet room. Marie Wehland is the SCCW representative. David Brown is no longer scout leader, but an assistant scout leader. The new leader is Steve Kilzzewski.

Old Business: “ Open and Affirming“: Gary L. spoke to Rev. Jim Bell about leading this study and his fees. Fees are $ 0.50.5 per mile, $4.00 per toll and out of pocket expenses. Miles traveled; 84 per trip. Committee should be 5-8 members, good cross section of the congregation. As of now, Gary L. (chair) Casey A., Marie Wehland, Jane Gottwald, Woody H., and Jo Mitchell are mebers. Cut-off date to volunteer for the committee is March 8. Purpose of meetings; to study what it means to be open and affirming. Approximately 6-7 meetings, meet 10 months . “Communion Committee Report:” Woody H. suggested results be circulated through congregation before congregational meeting. This meeting will be held April 20 th. If approved, the Deaconate decides where in the service communion will be held. Woody H. clarified using of e-mail addresses for different committees. Woody H. had no more information on the church basement rental for Home Teaching Association.

New Business: Gary L. moved and Graham S. seconded a motion to accept Pat Mengel as church auditor.

Trustees: A . Negotiations are in progress on how to redo belltower siding to prevent future losses. B. Two estimates received to fix slate roof. C. Generous offer from Paige Cox toward the repair of roof or for another project. D. A paper recycling company would place paper retriever at Webster Church. Could be source of income. Gary L. moved and Woody H. seconded to develop a contract with company. Community could also use this. New church school classroom doors would cost less than $350.00 each. E. Best way to improve handicap ramp being investigated. F. Cabinet being rebuilt in kitchen between stove and new oven.

Stewardship: Art H. moved and Graham S. seconded to amend budget for a $400.00 line item under Outreach to cover open and affirming committee meetings and amend the music committee budget less $400.00. Motion passed. Phone calls are being received about renting the church and social hall. AA was contacted about raising fee. Insurance company will honor claim of $6500.00 for wind damage done to bell tower. Possibly putting a radio tower on the steeple was suggested

Christian Ed: Sun. Sch. uses Hands On Bible curriculum. Sun Sch is divided into two groups; lessons taught over a two-week period. Allows an entire project that includes music, object lessons, a script, a Bible point and CD’s. Julianna C. will babysit for the church during Holy Week. Easter egg hunt Mar 15. First Vacation Bible School meeting held. Woody H. is co-chairman; school held on Jul 13-17, 2008. Hopewell Methodist is asking other churches to provide supper for helpers one evening during the week.

Deaconate: Easter services times were announced. Choir is cooking Sun breakfast with free will offering. Prayer person on-call will be removed from list of worship assistants. Deacons will do this duty. Deaconate will discuss summer hours for church on Memorial Day and Fall schedule return on Labor Day.

SCCW : Snowed out in Feb. March meeting at parsonage with Marie Wehland hostess. Officers will be installed.

Outreach: A. Applying for two types of grants. B. Neighborhood walk and drop held on Sat, Apr 5 th. C. Handouts and an invitation to our church on Sun 13 th will be given out. Items in a hand-out packet given to new members as well as a paper with frequently asked questions with answers. D. Invite A Friend Sunday will be held Apr 13 th. Pot luck lunch follows.

Fund Raising: Scheduled for 2008 A. Karaoke Night Apr 12 th. B. Yard sale May 3 rd . C. Peach Festival Aug 16 th. D. Annual Church Dinner Sep 27 th. E. Bazaar Nov 8 th. F. Basket bingo perhaps 2009 and Raise the Roof concert possibly this summer.

Clerk: An updated telephone chain has been created. Church records are being reviewed.

Other information: Nolan G. reported that fire code requires door to Quiet Room must turn outward. Rental for fire hall has been increased. Woody H. stated fire extinguishers are due a checkup.
